2021 Sur-Ron Electric Dirt Bike Line-up

April 23rd, 2021 by

Sur-Ron isn’t just a name, it is a team of 40 engineers hired by three motorcycle and hi-tech entrepreneurs. Back in 2014, those entrepreneurs had a dream of developing a high-power E-dirt bike. The result of that dream is the highly responsive, incredibly lightweight, Sur-Ron electric dirt bike.

Sur-Ron has grown and now has more than 100 employees who build and design the best electric dirt bikes on the market. Gone are the days of heavy bikes, noise, and fumes when you hit the off-road trails. If you are in the market for a lightweight aluminum-alloy chassis with a high power motor and adjustable front and rear air suppression, read on.

Light Bee LB X

In 2018 the Light Bee was awarded the Red Dot design award, which was given in recognition of a new genre of ground-breaking motorcycle products. The popularity continues in 2021, where you can pick up this version in various colours to stand out on the trails.

The 60V 6kW of power from the removable Panasonic Lithium-ion battery pack provides all the power you need for a day of fun on the trails. The lightweight frame has a total weight of 103 pounds, making it an ideal choice for both youth and adults.

The 45° climbing ability makes hitting the hills fun for everyone. This electric dirt bike’s quiet running provides a 20 to the 60-mile range with a top speed of 45 mph. You can recharge using the USB port on the LCD dash and be back on the trails in only 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

Every colour of the LB-X comes with a front fender and has an optional rear hugger and chain guard. The GPS tracker is factory installed and includes real-time tracking, geo-fence security zones, and theft alerts. You can also track the Sur-Ron using your phone or computer.

2021 Upgrades

If you are already familiar with the Light Bee, you will love the updates made to this electric dirt bike for off-roading.

  • Grey pro handlebar grips
  • 4 pot titanium finish calliper brakes with sintered pads, improved heat dissipation, and braking power
  • Gold O Ring chain is heavier duty, reducing noise and lower maintenance
  • Higher handlebars and wider, thicker seat for improved riding comfort
  • Fastace, DNM, or RST suspension
  • Sine wave controller provides more torque with ReGen, which gives a longer range and smooth power.

The Sur-Ron LB X is IP65 tested and approved against dust, dirt, and wet weather when using under normal riding conditions.

Light Bee LB X Road Legal

This road legal electric dirt bike has an aluminum alloy frame, an overall weight of only 125 pounds, and a ground clearance of 10.6 inches. The motor delivers 6 kW of power, and the 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a 20-60 mile range. The battery quickly recharges in only 3.5 hours, either on the bike or on its own.

The street-legal model holds riders up to 220 pounds and has a maximum speed of 28 mph. It comes with all accessories necessary to legally ride on the street, including indicators, dual-beam LED headlight, mirrors, and an LED taillight with integrated brake light. If you remove the restrictor, the bike achieves speeds of up to 47 mph.

To ride legally on the streets, you must have a CBT license.

LB Youth MX

This electric dirt bike for kids is a downsized version of the Light Bee and has a top speed of 28 mph. It has all the features of the LB X but with a smaller battery and lower power motor. Weighing only 121 pounds and a seat height of 30 inches makes it an ideal choice for younger riders.

The aluminum-alloy frame sits on a preload-adjustable rear shock and air adjustable inverted front forks. The bike has a 17” rear wheel and bilateral 4-piston hydraulic front brakes and rear disc brakes to give the rider supreme stopping power.

The bike has an average range of 15 miles on a 3.5-hour charge. An LCD, GPS tracker, and USB charging socket keep you and the rider aware of all important information. This bike is not street legal.

Sur Ron X Black

This bike comes in with a top speed of 48 mph and a range of about 40 miles. It features a full suspension and has 19” dirt wheels. With a weight of only 100 lbs. and zero emissions, the bike is almost silent to run.

Because it is electric, there are no areas on the bike that gets hot, and the electric motor requires very little maintenance. Because there is no gas or oil, you can load it into your vehicle without any concern about laying it flat.  The bike is 40” in height and has a ground clearance of 10.6”.

You will feel the 7,000 watts of power when you roll the throttle thanks to the 60 volts, 32 amp battery pack. The battery weighs 20 lbs. and sits in the middle of the bike in a locked compartment. It is easy to switch out the battery when necessary.

Performance

Sur-Ron X performance is similar to a 125cc bike, thanks to the direct-drive motor and a 42-tooth sprocket creating 18 ft-lbs. Of torque with the single-speed powertrain. This dirt bike handles well on all types of terrain, including dirt and sand. The 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes on both the rear and front bring the bike to a quick stop.

To program the regen levels, you hook up the dongle between the bike harness and battery. The handlebar acts as a toggle switch, allowing you to change between the three regen settings or completely turn it off.

Riding in low-light or dark is easy with the dual-LED front headlight. Both the headlight and taillight remain on, and there is no toggle to turn them off. The red taillight stays illuminated at all times and does not light up when braking.

The handlebar display includes your speed and a resettable trip odometer. You have the ability to toggle between sport and EP mode, which lowers the throttle and top speed to save battery power.

The suspension is a DMN Volcano dual crown fork with a rear coil that has eight inches of travel. The preload and rebound are adjustable. The bike is agile on trails, and the initial torque in drag racing is impressive.

Storm Bee

This badass-looking electric dirt bike for adults debuted at the EICMA Milan Motorcycle Show in 2019 and has delivery estimates of late summer 2021.  Get your order in now for this upscale model that will have triple the power and more than twice the Light Bee battery capacity.

Built for both beginners and pro riders, the Storm Bee resembles an authentic dirt bike, including aggressive geometry and race-like decals. This all off-road terrain bike weighs 260 lbs. and has a 36-inch seat height.

The LCD dashboard allows the rider to quickly see important information, including their battery level, speedometer, odometer, and time. They can also check their motor temperature and ride mode.

The bike power comes from a 96V 48aH lithium battery pack paired with a brake regen and integrated charger. This provides the rider with a range of about 93 miles at 31 mph. The brake regen will provide an additional 10 miles.

Recharging is easy, park next to a socket and start charging. You can also switch out the battery using the easy slide-out with a hatch.

A highly durable frame manufactured from forged aluminum alloy is both flexible and lightweight. Large drops on the trail are no concern because this frame can take the punishment. When repairs are necessary, it is easy to weld and repair.

Performance

Roll the throttle to get 382 ft-lbs. Of torque from the 21.5kW 96V brushless DC air-cooled motor. This combination provides awesome acceleration and maxes out at 68 mph. Running on a single gear, the high torque motor, and quick throttle response may leave you laying in the dirt if you aren’t ready for the quick takeoff.

When running up a steep incline, you will love the 17-inch aluminum rear wheel and 19-inch aluminum front wheel super-knobby off-road tires. This bike handles well on uneven terrain or when ascending and descending hills.

The 270mm front rotor and 240mm rear rotor hydraulic disc brakes include an anti-lock braking system (ABS). This provides better stopping power on gravel or wet terrain. DVO adjustable front forks with 11.4 inches of travel provide stability.

Electric v. Gas Dirt Bikes

Riders of dirt bikes are used to the loud-sounding two-stroke or four-stroke motor, combined with the fumes and the need to refill the petrol to keep it going. Serious riders know there is an ongoing need for service and maintenance of parts, oil and filter changes, and more. So what are the advantages?

  • Noise level—electric is quiet, gas is noisy.
  • Engine—no overheating on the electric, gas can overheat on gas
  • Exhaust—electric has no emissions, gas produces pollution
  • Weight—electric is lightweight, gas can be heavy
  • Torque—electric has a powerful, smooth torque; gas can have less power at any moment.
  • Learning Curve—electric has no clutch, gas-powered requires the rider to learn how to clutch.
  • Carburetor—electric has no carburetor, gas has a carburetor
  • Injector—electric has no injector, gas has an injector

The electric dirt bikes provide you with a quiet ride, making it easier to talk to fellow riders with the motor running. It is also easier to instruct youth learning to ride. There is no learning curve on switching gears without a clutch, and no kick start to deal with.

The lightweight frame makes it easy for smaller adults and youth to handle if the bike tips over. It is easier to load for transporting to your favourite Motocross, endure, or off-road trail area. There is no risk of petrol spills; you can safely lay it down in your vehicle.

Electric dirt bikes are the wave of the future and are growing in popularity. Now is the time to jump on the bandwagon and purchase an electric dirt bike.
